Jay & Miles X-Plain the X-Men

Late-Night Q&A with Jay and Chris

Jay here! X-Men ’92 co-writer and all-around rad dude Chris Sims was in town last week, and after a few days of weird theme parks, pizza, Powell’s, and blowing a LOT of quarters on the X-Men arcade game, we decided to sit down for a spur-of-the-moment late-night Q&A session, featuring fancy tea, a whooooooole lot of sunglasses, and PROBABLY not Chad Bowers hiding in nearby foliage:

Thanks to everyone who sent in questions!

  1. Hilarious! I made an overly giddy squeeee when I checked in on the site and found THIS! I discovered Sim’s War Rocket Ajax podcast last week (how I had not heard it before then is an epic fail on my part as a human, as your early episode together about the 90s cartoon is one of the funniest things I’ve here heard), and have been laughing my ass off listening to it while I do house work. So… yeah, getting a vid of two of the funniest people on the interwebs having a good time and a few drinks has made my week!

    Thanks for this!

  2. That was disorienting:

I watched this video on the Tumblr page. I came here to comment. The video on this article was the Cyclops Apology on the main page and the right video when I opened it in a new tab for commenting. I categorically dunno what’s up with that.

But! I cannot recommend Transformers highly enough. Even the non-More Than Meets The Eye parts contain an ex-decepticon who just wants to write terrible screenplays for human Hollywood. Starscream is the duly elected leader of Cybertron, and has been for years.

Basically, continuity catches up to everyone and they have to deal with the consequences of their actions.

  3. As onomatopoeia, I always thought of the church bell in the theme song making a “BONG!” noise, if that helps.

  4. Thanks for the video! Loved the conversation.

Thanks also for all the book recommendations. The Less Than Epic Adventures of TJ and Amal is (I think, at the very least) the fourth non-X-Men book I’ll be reading because it was recommended in a podcast/video here. Let alone all the X-Men books.

    1. Alas, given that we live across the country from each other, that’s probably not going to happen. I wish!

  5. While I know the both of you probably don’t have the time for another podcast, I would listen the hell out of a Continuicast

  6. This was very nice to watch. I have to say I share Chris’ nostalgia for video stores, VHS tapes, less connectivity and such, but I disagree that what we have today instead is necessarily better. More accessible, more convenient, certainly, but sometimes that’s not what we need. I wouldn’t call any of those experiences terrible, personally. I hope someday there’s a way to bring back some of those feelings without losing the obvious advantages of the times we live in now.
