HAWK TALK – What A Long, Strange Hawk It’s Been

This would usually be a skip week, but the world is still being a jerk, so we made you a bonus, entirely unedited, and almost entirely off-topic episode. This time, Jay and Miles talked about Hawk Talk.

  1. Thanks for all the hawks, fellas.

Vegetables was probably my favorite Hawk Talk, though the Big Stuff has a, um, Big place in my heart for Jay’s talk about the validation that comes from Optimus Prime telling him he did a good job. Also, the autumn ep, as that was how I discovered Over the Garden Wall.

In all seriousness, thanks so much for doing it. It’s been a weird year and a half and those early episodes were really comforting at a time when the isolation and anxiety was really getting to me.

  2. I could be wrong, but I believe the first “Hawk Talk” was actually in the the episode that covered the “Hawk and the Butterfly” arc in X-Men (Vol. 2) #31-32. Mostly I remember this because I recall Jay suggesting to Warren that his girlfriend might be a butterfly, not because I’m binging the entire show for the 5th time.

  3. I am shocked you kids had done these Hawk Talks as long as you did, knowing what was on your plates (only knowing that through these episodes). And Jay, I’m sorry you’ve felt uncomfortable with people’s curiosities and opinions of your personal life. It’s weird, I’ve listened to you both for 5+ years now and feel like I know you in a way, but I’m a total stranger to you both. So, it makes sense it’s uncomfortable when a connection is one-way.

That said, your Hawk Talk episodes have been a great source of comfort and entertainment during a difficult time. Thanks for doing it.

    Keep up the good work.

  4. There’s definitely something about podcast fandom (for lack of a better word) — listening to someone on a regular basis over a long time, getting updates on life events directly from them, fosters a weird (and illusory) sense of connection and involvement. I know I’m not actually friends with you or Marc Maron or the Harmontown crew, but in some ways I know more about what goes on in their lives than I do about some of my real friends (especially in the Covid era). Is it unique to the podcast format? Anyway, let me add to the thanks for all that you do!
