As Mentioned in Episode 532 – No Regrets

Thank you. I know I dropped off, but a friend told me that you had just posted your last episode and I had to come say goodbye. You were the one and only xmen podcast I ever listened to , and you gave me so many laughs, insights, and wonderful quotes. I hope the future is wonderful for you all.

Thank you so much for the podcast. If I can give a quick bit of context about myself. From listening to the show, I’d guess I’m at least 10 years older than the two of you. My definitive look for the team is drawn by Paul Smith and Kitty is my favorite character.

I am also coming from a very different place than you guys. I’m a straight, white, moderate leaning conservative, traditionally married, sis gendered guy. There are a lot of things we generally disagree about.

But I have loved this show. Yes, for my taste, there was a bit too much profanity and I would have preferred a few less jokes about genitalia, and I didn’t always agree with your takes on things. All of that is ok. We shared the same nerdy love of a certain group of superheroes. And that connection was enough for a daily (as I worked through the back episodes) then weekly hour of x-men related connection.

I wanted to say that it’s ok that we had different takes on things. In the final episode, Jay mentioned that the audience had been cultivated by running off people who would be offended by your personal lives and strong opinions. Well, maybe so, but I stayed. I’m glad I did (I never considered leaving.) I just wanted to point out that the X-Men, and the world for that matter, is a tent big enough for everyone. From the “traditional” to the “alternative,” (whatever those terms mean) I believe we can all love comics and the X-Men. We all just need to learn to get along.

Anyway- sorry about the length of my post. I’ve enjoyed the show. I hate to see it go, but I wish you all well. Thanks again.

Thank you both soooo much for 12 years of J&MXTXM! Jay, as a Tim O’brien fan, you had me fully ride or die at episode 20, The Brood they Carried. You also began talking publicly about your transition journey just as my teen kid was coming out as a trans man, which helped he and I feel less alone. Miles, your relentless positivity was wonderful and you introduced me (in an adjacent podcast) to the majesty of Walt Simonson and the best Onomatopoeia ever: Krakkaa-Thoooom! You both compliment each other as hosts and made each episode fun, informative and thoughtful. You also found ways to work through huge life transitions, continue to work together, and remain friends, which is fracking inspiring. I appreciate all you’ve created both in the podcast and the community that grew around it. I’m not sure there would be such a vibrant assortment of queer X-Men podcasts without you . Thank you Jay and Miles. I first found your show shortly before Jay moved to New York. I went back and listened to all the shows and caught up all the episodes about a week after Jay moved. It was a long wait for Jay’s return after listening to the 2 of you for about 6 hours a day. Ever since then I’ve been a weekly listener. I’m really curious what’s next for the both of you. Will there be more chances to meet you at emeraldcon? Or other conventions. I did preorder a copy of snapshots cyclopse way back when and I would love to get a signature on it. Your show has always been the highlight of my Mondays. While I’m sad that won’t be the case anymore, I’m grateful and thankful for the ride. The two of you have brought a lot of joy and happiness to many people in the world and that is something you should both be proud of.

You were one of the big influences in changing how I read comics. Without you and War Rocket Ajax, my media literacy definitely wouldn’t be where it is today.

*Sobs goodbye* I found y’all in college and while I did drop off when my grown up job took me out of the comicsphere for a while, y’all have accompanied me on many drives and one particular road trip when I needed the distraction from an anxiety attack. I’m so behind and wish I had more to say about your current coverage and the changes from where I’m listening currently (covering Age of Apocalypse during COVID hits me with feelings of nostalgic unease every episode), but still, I love this podcast and wish y’all the best going forward!

I stopped listening a while back, when you repeatedly referred to the Scots *language* as an “accent”. Scots has its own grammar, orthography, and centuries of literary history, reducing it to an “accent” is not good. For a bunch of good guys, this linguistic imperialism was disheartening. Not sure if you ever corrected yourself with that, but I did see people mention it in the comments here, so hopefully you did. Maybe I will come back to listening in the future. I very much appreciated the podcast up until that point, and it got me back into not just X-Men but comics as a whole, so I appreciate your hard work and wish you well for the future.
