We’re celebrating International Podcast Day with a bonus mid-week episode!

In which a bunch of twenty and thirty-something PNW nerds pretend to be New England teenagers. Left to right: Crystal Frasier as Jubilee, Miles Stokes as Boom Boom, Logan Bonner as the indifferent god of a cruel world, Jay Edidin as Havok, Max Carleton as Shadowcat.
Starring Hachi the Studio Dog as himself, or possibly as Mystique. The jury’s still out on that one.
Bayville or bust!
Fun fact: Miles’s only hot pink shirt is a Gaming’s Feminist Illuminati shirt, which we feel is 100% Boom Boom-appropriate.

Because we are gluttons for punishment, we let you choose which characters Rachel & Miles would play, and the makeup of the party.
Logan Bonner (Writer, Gamemaster, BS&P) is a game designer, writer, and editor. He works at Paizo, Inc. as a designer on the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, and has previously contributed to Dungeons & Dragons, Marvel Heroic Roleplaying, and the Mistborn Adventure Game. His name does not include, and has never included, the word “Howlett.”
Tina Abate (Wolverine) splits her time between an office job; working administration for Rachel & Miles X-Plain the X-Men; and blogging about the adventures of Jennifer Walters, the world’s greatest lady lawyer, at jenniferwaltersesq.tumblr.com. She lives in Portland and wishes there was a way to monetize atrocious Wolverine impressions.
Mikey Neilson (Storm) is the founder and co-host of the Chronicles of the Nerds podcast. For the past 6 years he’s been yelling his opinion about everything from X-Men to Power Rangers on a weekly basis. Mikey is also the Programming Director of the Rose City Comic Con, which will be having it’s 4th year on September 19th and 20th. When not talking nerd, Mikey can be found in a dark room writing comics no one will ever read.
Rachel Edidin (Cyclops) was really hoping to play Beast, but acknowledges that this is a hole she dug for herself.
Miles Stokes (Rogue) has seriously been talking in that accent all week.

In which we welcome Logan Bonner, Mikey Neilson, and AdministratriX Tina to the gaming table for an original X-Men Animated Adventure; the real enemy is BS&P; Australia is kind of terrible; Rogue is concerned about kangaroos; Wolverine taps into the power of love; Storm makes a long-distance call; and Cyclops plans for failure (but not color-coded labels).
FEATURING:
Logan Bonner as Writer, Gamemaster, and Broadcast Standards & Practices
Tina Abate as Wolverine
Mikey Neilson as Storm
Rachel Edidin as Cyclops
Miles Stokes as Rogue

Quick update to let you know that we’ve added a new set of milestone goals to the Patreon!
PODCAST WIKI – $2750/month Wondering which questions showed up in which episode, or where to find that one cold open about Fantomex? When we hit this goal, we’ll start work on an exhaustive wiki and question index!
WEBSITE REVAMP – $3000/month We’ll ditch our DIY setup and hire an actual web designer to revamp (and regularly maintain and update) the site!
A/V UPGRADE AND NEW PROJECTS – $3300/month We’ll upgrade our video production setup, and start producing some new video and audio content–including some larger projects*–in addition to the podcast and video reviews.
When we first launched the podcast a little over a year ago, we had no idea how large it would grow, or how quickly; and since then, it’s been a nonstop race to keep up. As a result, a lot of what we’ve done has felt less like building something to last than improvising a series of on-the-fly fixes–for instance, our very rudimentary (and mobile-unfriendly) website.
So, while previous milestones have been all about offering more content–posts, merch, recaps, video reviews, and more–this series of goals is all about creating a better and more sustainable infrastructure from which to run the current stuff and launch some projects* that we’re really, really excited about. Hiring a professional to build us a website that works. Organizing and indexing the mountain of material we’ve covered in a year+ worth of podcasts. Shifting more of the organizational and administrative hours to AdministratriX Tina, and using some of that time to get new stuff up and running.
Rachel & Miles X-Plain the X-Men is entirely listener supported, and that means that everything we do here is possible because of you. Thank you for helping us get to where we are, and helping us stay ad-free and independent–and thank you in advance for helping us continue to grow!
*Top secret, at least for now; but SO COOL. Seriously. Hardcore pipe-dream stuff; we’re kinda freaking out at the idea that we might actually get to do some of these for real.
Who’s the man who holds the Marvel Universe together while the superheroes are out gallivanting around the galaxy?
Super Doctor Astronaut Peter Corbeau, that’s who.
He’s got two Nobel prizes. He built his own space station. He survived splitting rent with the Hulk, swam across the Atlantic Ocean, snuck the X-Men into space, and is the namesake of the most unimpeachably legitimate award in comics.
And when you hit a moral or personal or scientific dilemma that will only stand for the most awesome possible solution, there’s only one question you need to ask: What Would Peter Corbeau Do?
As the name implies, this is a LIMITED RUN: T-shirts and hoodies (including kids’ and infant sizes!) will be up in the shop through March 1, 2015, then DISAPPEAR FROM THE SHOP FOREVER. (Tote bags and travel mugs may persist, depending on interest. We’ll see.)
T-shirts of the month are made possible by the support of our Patreon subscribers. If you want to help support the podcast–and unlock more cool stuff–you can do that right here!
Realistically, there’s no way we’ll have time to even look at them until later in the month, so we’re extending the deadline of the Corbeau Coloring Contest by one week, to January 21.
ALSO: Some of you expressed interest in an organized Corbeau Swap, in which you’d make awards for each other–kind of a very specific Secret Santa. If you would be into participating in that, pleas sound off in the comments; if we hit critical mass–let’s say a dozen people or more–we will go ahead and get that up and running! (And if someone else felt like taking point on that, we would be even more excited about it, because, this month, man.)
We’re still catching up on Patreon–a lot of thresholds hit at once this month–and having a blast putting together the first round of comics care packages. WE HOPE YOU LIKE TINY PLASTIC DINOSAURS AND GLITTER PAINT.
If you’re new to the podcast: It’s exactly what it says on the tin. We are Rachel and Miles. We explain the X-Men, in very roughly chronological order, sometimes with the help of folks responsible for them.
For a good general introduction to who we are and what we do, we’d recommend listening to the episode Giant-Size Special #1, which covers a stand-alone story (the graphic novel God Loves, Man Kills), along with a lot of bonus material (and significantly more navelgazing than usual).
We also do weekly video reviews of current X-books, which you can find here.
Rachel and Miles X-Plain the X-Men is listener supported and ad-free. If you want to join the ranks of the rad people who make it possible for us to keep making stuff, you can do that over at Patreon!
