  1. Wow. Just wow.

Thank you guys, first of all, for the many great memories, premature though this is. I was a ComicsAlliance reader who found you at Episode 3, so I’ve been with you a LONG time! This has been a weekly ritual for me, as well as being some of the best fun I’ve had listening to any podcast. I will try not to be too sad… but you will be missed. Still, the next few months with have a bittersweet quality to them, and I’m SO SAD about the many, many, many stories you’re never going to get to!

Second of all, your kindness and courteousness about informing us all about the impending end of the show is, as with everything you do, INCREDIBLY classy. I’ve had the rug pulled out from under me by many, many podcasts I’ve loved (though, of course, I love no podcast as much as yours!) when they just suddenly disappear. The fact that you’re giving us a warning is a great kindness.

Third, thank you once more for the many laughs and insights you’ve given. You guys are the best! I’m going to miss the show… but not for a long time, so I look forward to the next few months, in spite of the sadness!

    1. Having had a night to sleep on it, I think one of the things that’s most crushing to me about this is that we’re not going to hear you two talk any of the post-Morrison stuff. Any chance we could get a bonus episode (or a handful of them!) in which you talk, not in-depth about things, not about plot points or anything, but just reflecting more generally about the post-Morrison era? There are SO MANY things: Whedon’s Astonishing, the Bendis era, whatever that weirdness right before Krakoa was when they were trying to make “fetch” happen (in this case, “fetch” means “the Inhumans”), Krakoa, and now From the Ashes. Maybe even a little Ultimate? I don’t need in-depth… and I remember back in the day when you did reviews, so I know there’s SOME stuff out there. But it would be such a gift if you could spend just a little time on 25 years’ worth of stuff between Morrison and today. Not to get ahead of things… and if you don’t want to, you don’t want to; I get it. It would just be a treat as a listener!

  2. I always pictured that they’d find two new hosts to continue X-Plaining. An All-New, All-Different team lineup, while Jay and Miles jump into the Siege Perilous and new lives. Guess we’ll survive the experience after all.

    1. I understood an entrepreneur named… “Mr Essex” I think it was, had offered to produce a couple of replacement hosts, which he swore would be all but indistinguishable from the originals.

The new Miles might have that prehensile beard he’s always wanted, and Jay would be able to produce highlighter from his fingers for easier editing, but otherwise identical, honest!

  3. Hi, long time listener first time poster. I just wanted to say thank you for all your hard work podcasting, researching, and doing this show. I met you guys once at Phoenix Comics and Games as part of an after show at Emerald City Comic con. (I got Jay to sign a Cyclops toy box!). I’m going to miss listening to this podcast every week when it comes out, but I hope you two go on to do whatever you want. Thank you so much.

And, posting this before I listen. But, you two have finally hit the first X-Men comic I got as a kid. Adjectiveless 112! What a weird book to get as a first issue.

  4. I’m gutted.
But at the same time, you’ve picked the best place to go out (and where I left the X-Books, the first time).
Thanks so much for the last 12 years!

  5. As I assume Plato once said, don’t cry because it’s over; YAYBO! because it happened. Thanks for not just educating us on continuity, critical reading and magnetism but also sharing (versions of) yourselves with us for a dozen freaking years.

  6. I’m amused that you both proposed Brotherhoods of Evil Mutants that are majority women.
I feel like the Strong Guy/Jubilee team would quickly have Jube noting that it should be the Sisterhood of Evil Mutants, Sunspot objects, Jubilee asks why she should feel any different than he does about being misgendered, and they take a collective moment to ponder the awkwardness of the word “Siblinghood” before giving up on the name altogether.

  7. “[S]maller in the Microverse.” :gigglesnort:
I’m happy for you to know your wrap-up storyline, and sad for us listeners to be saying good-bye soon. <3

  8. Well, that is definitely a team of people with mutant abilities which Jean recruited, yessiree, those are indeed… random people with powers of some sort.

What a geuinely weird idea to have as you’re trying to clear the boards for an across-the-board relaunch. We have several dozen high profile mutants kicking their heels, who would have experiene with, and thus some resonance, going up against Magneto, but instead we amass (I don’t think I can even call it recruit) a random new team made up of people including several we have never seen before and who seem… eccentric choices at best in terms of powers. I suspect the revamped second Brotherhood of Evil Mutants (the one with Peepers, Shocker and Lifter) would probably have been better choices, but I’m not the host of the Phoenix Force, so what do I know.
