I was sad to see Romita leave the title. I was a big fan of his chunky figures, expressive body language, and clear storytelling – even if the way he drew faces during this period was a bit disturbing.
It took me a while to get on board with Madureira’s pencils. In these first few issues, he and Lobdell seem to be getting a feel for each other. While the visuals are exciting, I had a hard time following this story. Additionally, Mad’s face shapes are wildly inconsistent from panel to panel, as evidenced in the Storm/Yukio page shown here. But by AoA, this guy was knocking it out of the park!
